Japan is treated here not as “another right answer” but as “the result of an experiment under different constraints.” In comparisons with other music, what matters is not what looks similar, but what diverged, and why.

Each article follows one piece of music as a problem to be solved: what it tried to solve, the first wall it hit, what it chose and what it gave up, and the next wall that choice created. Half is fact and half is interpretation, and each is labeled.
